october falling
blitzed and shuffling into the bar at the end of the street.
the neon lights flickering through pockets of tobacco smoke floating in the low ceiling. walking past a small crowd towards the bar, an impregnating aroma of perspiration, cheap perfume, spilled alcohol and sawdust penetrate the airways.
this song begins to play on the louder than normal jukebox. Head bobbing to the bass line and the piano solo. moxie slowly begins flowing through the veins.
alcohol starts pouring and the first three drinks wash down quicker than your pupils expanding to the darkness.

HOOCHIE COOCHIE MAN
attitude personified through rhythm and vocals eh?
muddy waters' voice hits like a 12 gauge right in the chest. aah! the drums hitting nerves ever so slightly. oooh... the bass line soothing surfacing itches. hhmmm... if we sent u back in time to be at this bar live with these motherfuckers....
cant pinpoint when i first heard this mellifluous riff; more than likely in a movie or a cartoon. when was the first time u heard the beat?
glass full of small batch whiskey. humid air filled with Lucky toasted smoke. the constellations shining faintly with a wavering light.
youll never miss with either the live or studio version of this song. THE GRILLE is spinning this shit just as the charcoal turns gray.
everyone wants for an upbeat blues song to be featured on this blog. this is as positive as it's ever going to get.
btw, what u think about mick jagger in this video? ha
rolling stones blues coming soon.....

supermoon. one day later.
MY MORNING JACKET has been on this blogg before.
the lunar maria and the dark innards try so hard to shine, yet it takes the life of a burning out star to show
their imperfections, or beauty, depending on how you choose to stare up.
dont look up for long hoping to capture peace because disappointment will settle and bring you back to earth.

BLUE tear drops*
although mofos bar and grille is proudly founded out of the blues genre and is a continuous advocate of it , from time to time we embrace unique sounds to those who appreciate the art of music.
this is one of those times. hooorah! USA.
on this edition of out of the blue, we'd like to put some shine on the one and only Hot 8 Brass Band from the Big Easy*. new orleans*. member. click play and turn it up loud so your ear drum hears the tuba playing. not too loud though, or the fucking trumpets will blow them out.
remind anyone of jr high? high-school? who would of thought that a blend of hip hop, jazz and funk would sound this good huh? i'm sorry but if these instruments don't make your head bob and body sway, you might wanna reassess how you first became a music enthusiast. there is so much to take from these guys' music.
for those unfamiliar with marvin gaye, sexual healing won two grammys in 83 and has been one of those joints played everywhere. chances are youve heard it in commercials, movies, porno or radio. the brass band's rendition is way different but it does it every bit of justice with their loud, vibrant color.
first heard this band on HBO's TREME. shame main stream america hasnt embraced it. doesnt that sound familiar. BLUES!
DIRECTIONS: play the bass loud. enjoy early in the binge. prepare urself a nawlins hurricane. double on that rum. no rum? three nice ales will get it done. ;)
sugar.

back door man?
one of the few uptempo blues songs youll ever hear at the grille. dust my broom (dust my blues) by Mississippi native elmore james will sure as heaven light a fire under any cold tempered soul.
unbeknownst to us, this songs opening slide guitar riff is one of the best known sound in all of blues, which is probably why its made its way here.
elmore james sound for ya. enjoy.

having double troubles
bad luck and trouble
itching like a fiend for this track to be played again. it's no 4 on the list. what a perfect blend of lyrics to music. the air of quiet desperation stretching the notes to the breaking point. pun intended.
something about it. perhaps it's the organ in the background laying down the mood for the guitar to rip on by. . or maybe its that fucking doleful baseline conjuring once upon a times.
glass full of small batch whiskey. hot humid air filled with Lucky toasted smoke. the constellations shining faintly with their wavering light.

legend willie dixon and otis rush dropped this joint in '58. since then it's become a cornerstone in the blues genre, even inspiring texan native stevie ray vaughan to name his band after it.
the rendition picked out is rush and clapton together in 1986 live at the cathedral that is montreux.

on the corner of chestnut and univ ave in west phila, the '04 marquis blasting eric claptons version while an order of chinese noodles are being cooked off a truck. two disenfranchised african americans in the drizzle step to the passenger side window and say, "that's good music right there youngster. this muthafuckin rain aint a god damn thing huh?"
stupid shit that make a persons day, both of us.

happy birthday *

Positive vibrations out to you on this 6th of
February.
It’s your birthday. What
a bittersweet taste your vocals bring to mind. The departure came unexpected but
your voice still reverberates in such a way. What an impact you’ve established!
You’re here again at Mofos. Music has been inspired by you on
this blog before so deciding what melody to dedicate on your natal day was a
little difficult. The first two songs that came to mind were Is this Love and No Woman No Cry because of those nights with your CD.
However, Concrete Jungle’s mellifluous rhythm blended with its
doleful message made the decision a no brainer. Plus, that dulcet tone the guitar
solo injects? Caribbean rum in hand, cheers.
Ja feel?
Sol is shining and high yellow Luna won’t come out to play.

Please Come Home *
newcomer gary clark jr bringing it with "please come home".
listening to this ax chop through emotions is like...hhmm god damn. tell me that solo doesn't take you to that place... fervor, ardor. whatever it may bring out of you, it's all that and more personified into one heartrending melodic passage. this cat burns right through this jam with every note he hits.
let this song seep into your soul and let it go to work on you with its deep cleanse.
delighted to bring this song to the table
nearly a year since the last installment of the blues at the grille, but it's still here. an air of melancholy breezes gently around the skin and circulates through the body...........like this jam.
reaching..grasping. .whiffing. *(
